Keira’s lockdown photo diary - week 4

The beginning of lockdown saw a continuation of the lovely warm weather, much warmer than normal for April and I was enjoying getting out on the bike. Me and my partner decided to expand our cycling range by taking the bikes to Talybont Reservoir. As we were getting our bikes out of the car, I saw a white crow. This was the first time I had ever seen a white crow, also known as a leucistic crow. The white colouring is due to a genetic mutation which results in the bird having a lack of melanin, which is what gives crows their black feathers. It was so unusual to see a white crow, as I had always assumed that all crows were black and this one really stood out in the green field. After watching it for quite a long time and taking many photos, we continued our cycle along the Taff trail and on the way back I spotted a Great Crested Grebe, another first for me! It was definitely a good day for wildlife spotting.

A few days later we got on our bikes again and went back along the Brecon canal. It was another good day for watching wildlife, with young lambs running and playing in the fields and squirrels scampering through the trees. Luckily I had my camera with me and was able to capture everything I saw.
