Keira’s photo diary- Week 3

Week three of lockdown started with a continuation of the lovely warm weather. It felt more like summer than spring, with temperatures in the early twenties. When it is this warm I always want to be by the water, even if the water isn’t quite warm enough to go in yet.  Just being near water helps me to relax. Me and my partner decided to get our daily exercise by going for a walk along Llangynidr river and a few days later by dusting off our bikes and going for a cycle along the Brecon canal. With travel being limited and restricted, it was a surprise to see how quiet the roads were, with hardly any cars in sight.  Instead there were many people out running, walking and cycling, a lot more then before lockdown, but it was nice to see people making the most of the situation.

Both down the river and along the canal, I was surprised by the amount of wildlife there was. The bird song was so much louder and the birds seemed to be everywhere, as well as all the ducks. Spring is the time that the birds start laying eggs and the early ones start to hatch in April and we were lucky to see newly hatched ducklings both at the river and canal. The ducklings were only a few days old…they were so small, about the size of an egg and covered in their fluffy down.  To me this is when they’re at their cutest. Tiny little balls of fluff, bobbing along the water and already chasing insects.

These photos of the ducklings were taken at the river and then a few days later along the canal, where for about 10 minutes we watched them testing out the water, chasing flies and just enjoying themselves.
