The Muddy Care Blog

Muddy Care CIC is a community and it is a project of co-production. Thus, the participants needed to be involved directly from the beginning in a positive, proactive and collaborative way.

The Muddy Care blog is written by the participants of the mini pilot rehabilitation programme. From the very beginning the Muddy Care Education Team (MCET) felt the blog should come directly from the participants as a tool for communicating their voice. The MCET do not edit nor direct the contents of the blog in any way. It is published as it comes in, all the creative writing being that of the participants.

The MCET also wanted people to hear the participant voices in respect of them being enabled to do things that a lot of people, including some professionals, would expect them ‘not to be able to do’ because of their chronic conditions. This highlights the importance of seeing the person first and not the person who has ‘said’ chronic conditions, for example, a damaged heart, kidney disease and a faulty immune system. People with chronic conditions are people who have daily challenges, sometimes extreme challenges but above all else, they are entitled to live life to their full potentials. They just need some extra help and support to do that sometimes.

There are a series of realities that accompany having a chronic condition(s):

1. Life doesn't always turn out how you wanted it to be;

2. Sometimes things are very difficult for a time;

3. Adaptation is the key to many solutions that are creating challenges;

4. Accept change and go with the flow.

So when COVID-19 became a reality,  Muddy Care CIC reacted without hesitation and with intention.  We were ready.  We adapted with innovation, acceptance and purposefully without deliberation.  To the CEO of Muddy Care CIC it was like having a serious relapse and she has had a few of them over the years.  She is well equipped in dealing with adversity.

We will always be indebted to Arwain, to the Brecon Beacons National Park, to the National Lottery for having faith in our vision and Powys will always be home to Muddy Care CIC.  The people of Powys with chronic conditions will always be included in all our services and as we grow and expand to the Swansea and Cardiff areas, our services within Powys will never dwindle nor fade.

Here is our feature in the Arwain newsletter for Summer 2020.  We hope by you reading this, you can not only see how professional we are as an organisation, but also our resilience and ability to retain our services to the chronic condition community even when things are extremely difficult.
